Entry 50
Yeah, so we
finished searching up that room but before we was gonna go into that other
locked door, I thought maybe it'd be good idea to show Lab Coat how to use Joy,
you know? So, I was telling him, you know, you gotta, like, treat her right.
Gotta talk to her all nice and like and then, you know, she'll come
through. He seemed a little confused by
my instructions and wasn’t quite sure how to hold her. So, then I kinda just
stood behind him, you know, just kinda putting my arms around him to
demonstrate how you're supposed to hold Joy and all that. Anyway, it was… it
was alright—he's, you know, this guy is like he's real little, he’s like a
little princess or something, you know? Anyway, heh, it's just a little weird.
Uh, and then Murph, decided to-to join us too, which is very funny. You know
Murph, he gotta good sense of humor that guy. Anyway, Sunshine helped me
explain to Lab Coat how to properly use Joy and all that. I think it made
sense.
So, then Lab
Coat told that other Protectron bot guy to unlock the door. So Murph and I
flanked around and then as he opened it, we made our way in and then, sure
enough, there was three ghouls on the other side of the room. Murph and I got a
couple shots in and then the rest of the group filed in and, Lab Coat, you
know, first try at Joy didn't go so well. She got a lot of kick, you know what
I mean? Uh, so I just kinda told him he gotta really hold that butt up against his
shoulder to kinda like keep her in place so she don't kick back, you know what
I mean?
Oh, and then Babs
is doing something weird. He, like, ran up and started staring at the wall or whatever.
Still going on about the building being alive, I guess. But yeah, second time Lab
Coat used Joy (it was a) perfect shot. Like he really had a good grip on her
that time and was ready for that kick. He’s a quick learner, so that was good. And
Joy looked good on him… And then I got to use the new Musket. So, I was like,
alright, let's make some music with this. So, I fired up some of those guys and
man, that new gun really sings, you know? So, I think I might call that one Melody
because she’s gotta nice song about her, you know?
So yeah, at
one point I ran up to one of them and Chirpy was, like, freaking out cuz the
door to the office was lightin’ up real hot, you know, like radiation-wise. And
I was like, oh, man, that's where that John guy is, so for some reason,
something more radioactive is happening in that room. Anyway, after we finished
all the ghouls—took care of them, Lab Coat hacked the door (to the office.)
Then he ran back, so all of us fleshy ones, we was hiding on the other side of
the room because (we’re all) sensitive to radiation, you know what I mean? But
Babs, you know, he was still looking at that wall kinda not really
understanding what's happening in the room, but you know, that's how it goes. Anyway,
sure enough this radioactive ghoul comes out just like lit up, you know? And
Murph took a swipe at him, but his claws didn't do nuthin’ against this guy, so
we had to switch tactics a little bit. Had to try to hit him a lot harder
because he had just more natural resistances to some of our weapons, you know? But
yeah, Mel was doing—Mel got some good shots in with her and Joy was working
awesome as usual.
But then as
we was like hitting him and stuff, it's like he started glowing more and more,
you know? Then finally, Babs turned around, got a little freaked out when he
saw, you know, Nuclear John and then just fired like a whole round into the
guy, and then he just collapsed on the ground, luckily, before he had time to,
like, blow up whatever. Yeah, that was real tense. But everyone did a good job.
So, then we
just searched the area. Sunshine picked a safe in the office and pulled out some
real cool items. I got a little excited when I saw this like chainsaw thing
called the Ripper, saw it in a magazine a long time ago. So, I was real excited
about that and it turned out, I don't think anyone else had the kind of
training for it or whatever, so they said I could have it. Gotta come up with
another name. Lab Coat said maybe “Jack” or whatever cuz I guess there's some
guy called Jack the Ripper. I don't know, I never heard of him. I don't know,
I’ll think about it. I gotta find something that feels right.
But yeah, I was like maybe I don't need Souvenir anymore? Got a little
emotional, saying goodbye to him. But you know, I thought Millie could probably
use something like that—cuz she ain’t got any kind of weapon—she just had a
pipe or whatever. I was like, well, “Souvenir, we get off on the wrong foot,
you know, in the beginning, but he's been pretty lucky for me since…” So, I
give Millie Souvenir. Ah, I had that thing for months, you know what I mean?
Anyway, we
decided it was getting late enough that we decided just to sleep there. Murph
and Karl kept watch. I played cards with them for a little bit before I went to
bed. Those guys, I keep losing to them because they got like, you know, the
best poker faces cuz you can't read their expressions at all, you know what I
mean?
So, the next
morning we made our way out towards where the Toe Matoes are supposed to be. We
saw like a dead Rad Stag along the way. Looked like something funny might have
been up, but it turned out it was probably just broken leg. That’s kinda what Lab
Coat was thinking when he was looking at it. So Sunshine, you know, kind of
gathered some of the meat up and the leather. We didn't get too much off of it
cuz I was—I gave the Ripper a little bit of test run, and I was still getting
used to it so I kinda cut up too much of the meat, you know. We didn’t collect
as much as we probably could have. Anyway, I'll get—I'll get the hang of it. I'll
get the hang of it and still kinda gettin’ used to it.
So, we got
closer to the river, and it was raging, it was, you know, 30 feet across or
whatever. Ain't no trees that we could have cut down, so we split up and looked
around the area. Lab Coat, Murph, and Babs, they ended up finding a little
bridge just south, so we met up with them. Murph said that he could go across
and kind of just make sure that the bridge was safe, and I thought, well, Murph
looks kind of heavy to me, so I was a little worried that he’d take the bridge—I
shoulda never doubted Murph, you know what I mean?
So, Lab Coat
went across first and then Babs followed. Sunshine had a little bit of trouble.
I was ready to jump in that river, though cuz she, like, slipped at one point.
I went after, I—I was okay, I was a little wobbly across that thing, not the
most stable. And then Murph went at the end. Murph was like the—the bridge didn't
even fuckin’ move you know? He just glided across it, like, got on all fours,
transformed a little bit. Ha. Pretty impressive, pretty fuckin’ impressive. Yeah.
Never, never doubt Murph, that's what I learned.
So, we're all
across—oh, before that, we decided that Millie and the Brahmin and Karl should stay
back because the Brahmin wouldn't have fit and Karl was kind of big, so Millie
said she'd stay back with them.
Anyway, so on
the other side, there was a path we followed up. And then we saw some signs,
you know, saying “Raiders, go away.” And I was like, oh, shit, I—I don't come
off as the most friendly kinda—kinda person, know what I mean? So, Babs and I
switched places in the line. He's much better with people. I come off a little
aggressive sometimes—I mean, that's what I've been told. So, as we’re going,
we're seeing these, like, trip wires and cans in the trees and all that stuff. Not—not
so inconspicuous, you know? More signs, something about, you know, “Kirkland
Grove” and “Stay Out” or whatever.
And then,
yeah, so that we came upon a clearing, looked like a nice little garden and a
building. And I was like, alright, well, this is a kinda nice little
settlement, you know? Sunshine’s taking notes; some ideas for her future
settlement that she wants. And then, uh… and then this guy comes out of the
house and, uh… [voice gets quiet] big guy… super mutant, you know?
And I got all,
um… what do they call it when your eyes get a little blurry, everything looks a
little fuzzy, and feels like you're up falling or something? Anyway, I got kinda
dizzy, I guess. Hands got all clammy. I—you know it's been a…I didn't see one
of those ones since… um, so I’m just tryin’ to keep it together, but I mean, my
first instinct was to grab Mel, you know what I mean? And just let her sing. But
I was just trying to keep my cool. I don't even know what theys was talking
about. Babs, you know, and Sunshine, they were going back and forth with this guy,
and I was just thinking about all this other stuff, you know?
Heh, I was
like—I had told Millie the story about how I got Souvenir, you know, as we was
walking looking for a bridge. And I was—if I had told the other guys the story,
then they'd kinda understand, you know what I mean? Why I got all pale.
Yeah…
Sorry, what
was I talking about?
Oh yeah. They's
asking me how he could make better traps. I don't know—it took me a little bit
to get my head back into, you know, the present moment. Ugh, still thinking
about it, it's making me a little sick, actually.
Fuck. Look, I
know this guy wasn't there, know what I mean? It's just, I didn't know, you
know, he coulda been? I don’t think he was—it sounded like he's just a regular
guy… I don't know.
Anyway. Um. So,
he just wants help getting rid of some Raiders… [voice cracks] oh fuck…yeah,
sorry, I’m getting all emotional. So, these Raiders go after ghouls and I was
like fuck, I was gonna run back to Millie, you know? I—I think my emotions were
a little bit, not kept under wraps as they say, I guess. So yeah, the others,
they figured it out with this guy. We're just gonna go find these—these Raiders
and take care of them for him and we'll come back and see how it goes.
So, we headed
back to the river and Murph runs across. Again—lickety-split. I didn't even,
like, barely see him, bridge didn’t fuckin’ move.
So, he went
to accompany Millie, Karl, and the Brahman, while the others, you know, me and
the others stayed on the other side, just cuz, you know, Sunshine and Lab Coat
didn't have the easiest time getting across so I don't want to risk them falling…
So, oh right because the guy was like there's another bridge, a bigger bridge,
like two miles north. We're like, well, we'll just walk parallel to the other
group. We'll meet up at the bridge. So, we're just making our way there.
So, yeah. So
