Entry 56
We chased after Babs’ Brahmin and tried to come up with a
plan so’s not to bring the FOC to Kirkland’s doorstep, you know what I mean? Lab
Coat had an idea from one o’ his “documentaries” about making a false set of
tracks. I thought that was a great idea. The idea was to make the false tracks
real convincing-like and then try to hide our actual tracks… but that wasn’t
quite what happened. Lab Coat was rolling Karl back and forth and they was
directing the wagon all different kinds of directions… it was real messy, not
what I had in mind at all…
And then… outta nowhere comes this curly haired lady with a
sword on her back! Lumpyeia or something, I aint’t too good with names, so I
just called her Curly. Anyway, Lab Coats being all friendly and telling her the
whole spiel, you know… but I don’t know who dis lady is, you know? Whether she
can be trusted. We asked her what her business is, turns out she’s looking for
a lady all dressed in white. I showed her the wanted poster – dis lady? I asked
if she was looking to cash in on a warrant or if it was on friendlier terms.
She didn’t know nothing about no warrant… so seemed she wasn’t after her for nefarious
reasons. I still wasn’t sure she could be trusted… We also introduced her to
Millie and Chompers, who was on the cart and then we asked if she knew Kirkland.
She didn’t. We said she was welcome to follow us, but just to warn her,
Kirkland can look, uh, intimidating but he’s one of the good ones, you know? It
ended up coming out that he was a super mutant, but our friend…
And then… Murph noticed an eye spying on us… he wanted to
shoot it, but I was worried that give us away (in hindsight, Murph shoulda just
trusted his instincts… but I’ll get into all dat in a bit.) After all the talk
about Kirkland, the eye sped away, outta sight. Shit. We picked up the pace and
hurried to Kirkland, knowing that fucking ball was gonna rat us out.
On the way, I asked Curly to stay near the back and watch
our six with me. Still trying to sus her out, you know? I asked her about her
tear drop tattoo and she said, “Don’t worry about it.” Haha, alright kid. It
was then that I knew I could trust her. I don’t trust nobody that’s too
forthright, you know?
At one point, and I can’t remember exactly why I brought it
up, but I was talkin’ about those little legs, youknow? Those tiny pieces that
you can put together to make things like cars. Babs was like righteous cars? I
said I guess they could look pretty righteous. Some cars are red, some are
blue. Babs was like, are we red cars? And then Murph said, are we commies? I
didn’t quite understand what Murph was getting at – Murph’s cleverer than me,
you know… Murph said, oh you mean LeGOs… but I don’t know what that is. He
said, when you step on them they hurt real bad and I was like yeah that’s it,
but we only called them Legs, not this LeGO name. Lab Coat was like, Murph you
remember something! Maybe Murph was a bodyguard for some kid or something? Need
to get to work on unlocking those memories of his, you know? I don’t even
remember why I brought that up… I guess I was just remincing about being a kid
when we used to build things with the legs, I guess.
Anyways, we eventually made our way to Kirklands. No sign of
his signs, but we avoided the usual boobytraps like usual. Murph ran a scan, no
signs of life… but did pick up a signal of a recently deceased. Shit. It was
coming from the compost heap. Murph and I hurried to dig it out while Lab Coat
searched the home and Sunshine, Babs, and Curly looked around the farm.
Turns out the recently deceased was an FOC. Babs said he
could talk to him. Recognized him as his friend Samuel and told a whole story
about the events leading up to his coming across a grenade. Babs was real torn
up about it. Interesting guy, that Babs. I never knew nobody that could get all
that from a corpse, you know?
Meanwhile, Lab Coat is calling me on Chirpy from the house.
Said there’s a pile of Kirkland’s signs and an eye bot. Also found some of
those to-mat-toes in the kitchen, like Kirkland was preparing them for us.
Sunshine found a trail of blood, so we follows that. From the look of it,
looked like the body was dragged… we figured maybe Kirkland double backed, so
we followed the trail for awhile…
I got eyes on his tracks…
but as I came up, I hit my head on a tree branch.. but I was alright, my
nonna always said I had a testa dura, you know?
Ended up near the river and sure enough, there was Kirkland,
in the water. He was taking apart the bridge. Seems like he’s taking all the
necessary precautions, you know? We started loading up on timber and heading
back to his farm… He was in the lead, already in the treeline, when a group of
FOC’ers met us near the river. Me, Murph, and Karl were nearing the treeline…
Lab Coat, Sunshine, Curly, and Babs thought they could stall ‘em so we
continued on our way.
I only got pieces of information – Lab Coat was clever
enough to hit his pip boy enough to radio to me what was happening. He said
this group of FOC was coming to take a tour around the farm. I told Kirkland to
go off and hide and the rest of us would make like we was farmhands…
I didn’t get the full story of how the conversation went
until later… so I can get into that then…
Uh… but after a bit, we saw a group of lady FOC coming our
way. Not the friendliest group, either, mind you. They demanded to look around.
I asked if they had paperwork. This land was under the protection of the
Brotherhood of Steel and you can’t just trespass without papers. The lady in
charge wasn’t buying it though and got all testy with me. Said her name was Corp.
Graves. Oh, Corp. Graves, you look different than last time I saw you. She said
that was her brother, also Corp. Graves (well you can see why I was confused,
you know?) Anyway, I remembered Lab Coat said something about a tour, so I just
pretended I was a farm hand showing them around the farmstead. I asked if they
wanted to see the Apiary… but this corporal, she was all business and she said
she’s here for the Super Mutant. I said, Super Mutant? We don’t grow none of
those here and asked if she wanted to see the to-mat-toes. My charm wasn’t
working on her and she started to reach for her gun. This FOCer. The charm
sorta melted away and I was starting to get angry. You fuckin’ come to my farm,
disrespecting me like that? So I just started walking up to her, trying to use
my six feet of muscled frame to intimidate her… sure enough, she draw her weapon
and then zap, outta nowhere Corp and two of her goons took a nice bolt of
electricity. Atta boy, Lab Coat! Graves took a shot at me, with she musta been
shaken up by Lab Coat’s electricity and she fired wide, shooting a hole through
the side pocket on my cargo pants. Murph charged at her and swiped at her real
good. I heard Sunshin’s shotgun go off in the treeline, but my sights were on
this Bitch Graves. I pulled out my big mouth and bing bam boom, suddenly there
was two halves of her on da ground. Fuckin’ disrespect me.
The rest of our party closed in, Curly was taking particular
notice of the FOCers cart… looked like maybe there was something on it? Babs
and Curly took out a couple more of the troop. Curly seemed a little
apologetic? Funny, that one. She then hurried to the cart, pulled off a
blanket, revealing a manacled lady in white!
It didn’t take long for us Brainz N’ Brahmin to make
mincemeat outta those FOCers… but then Lab Coat warned that there was another
group of them coming. Sunshine hurried over to the cart to unlock the
unconscious chef. I thought about lifting her out of the cart… but then the
other FOCers showed up, so I just stood guard near it.
A bunch of them came running out of the treeline aiming at
our party… one of them got a sight of me and tripped ass over tea kettle, my
abs tend to have that effect on people, if you know what I mean.
This troops Corp Graves came running in, looking for his
sister. He got a sight of both sides of her and went red in the face. His troop
wasn’t playing and started laying into us. Babs took a big hit to the leg and
got knocked down and Murph took a shot to the chest and started sparking. I saw
Lab Coat hurry to them both… and then one of them FOCers hit Sunshine in the
head, she looked dazed. I carved into that one, stunning him good and then
hurried over to the big boss, Graves.
He started pissing himself real good after a minute and ran
into the woods like a fuckin’ baby. Murph and I chased after, but this fucker
was hiding real good. Shit. I knew the others needed help, but I couldn’t let
this FOCer get away, you know? Murph musta been reading my mind and he hurried
back to help the others, while I tried in vain to find this guy.
I ran pretty far and then took a second to get my bearings…
and with some luck, found his tracks… I trailed him to the river and saw him
dive in. This FOCers makin’ my job real hard, but he was fighting the current
and barely made to the other side… by then, I was able to pull out Joy and took
aim, dazing him a bit as he tried to pull himself out of the water. I radio’d
to Lab Coat to let him know what’s what, asking for backup. I’m good with Joy,
but much better equipped hand to hand, you know? Most of the others are much
better at shooting from a distance.
I kept my sights on Graves, kept widdling away at him, but this
guy refused to die. I heard Lab Coat radio in, saying we need to take him
alive, but… I pretended not to hear that part. Soon enough, Murph and Sunshine
came out of the treeline and hurried to take aim. Murph took aim and finished
the FOCer off. We then hurried to the bridge to snag his body before the
current took him away.
I carried him body back and we regrouped with the rest of
the party. Lab Coat said another FoCer got away… but then Kirkland came out of
the southern treeline, with a body over his shoulder.
Only thing unaccounted for is the eye… but I’m hoping Lab
Coat can fix up this receiver so we can call it back to us.
Lab Coat stabilized the lady in white. Turns out she’s not Gwendolyn,
but she works for her. She was sent to meet Curly. She still looked in a bad
way, think we’re gonna have to rest up a bit before we can talk to this lady and
find out her story, you know?
The party gathered all the bodies of the FOCers. Shit, if I
didn’t know better I think I was running with my old crew again, you know? This
group of Brainz N Brahmin got a lot of skill, if you know what I mean.
I was real proud of Lab Coat, he kept us a live – fixin up
Babs and Murph like it was nothin’. Good kid, that one.
