Entry 52
Got a lot to catch up on... Might be some sounds in the
background cuz of our current location, but I’ll get into all that later, you
know?
Let’s see, where was I? After we took out cannibal Clyde, a
few of us was looking a little rough, so Doc was digging in his bag for awhile,
tryin’ to find the right sorta medicine I guess.
Anyway, eventually Doc healed me up, but while doing so he pressed
into my old wound. Doc said a little pussy was comin’ out of it. Doc studied it
more, got real curious about it and figured it came from souvenir, smart guy; but
I didn’t wanna talk about all that.
Babs and Sunshine were still a little hurt, so I helped Sunshine
cooked up some Molerat meat. Lab coat really enjoyed it! I guess he ain’t never
had nuthin’ like it before. Sunshine’s a great cook.
We decided not to double back, so we’s headed up the river.
We thought, who knows, maybe we’s run into some mirelurk and be able to collect
the peperoni ingredients we needed.
I lead the charge followed closely by Murph. As we
approached the river, we tried being quiet - Babs caught Murph from slipping,
but otherwise we was pretty stealthy.
I spotted some mirelurk eggs across the river. Too far to
jump across. I thought maybe we could lure the mirelurk out by shooting at the
eggs. So we all hid in the treeline, while Murph took a shot. Murph’s really
got that instinct, ya know? He just laid into those eggs, killing a handful in
one shot.
Sure enough that got momma and papa mirelurk’s attention and
we got to work. Papa mirelurk came running to me, but Sunshine laid into him. I
was ready to take him on, but those heavy hits pissed him off, so he went
running for her--hitting her real hard, crippling her leg. Rage filled me,
I was so angry I couldn’t see straight, kept trying to shoot at the piece of
shit but missing with every shot. But it was alright because she was alive and Lab
Coat got to her and patched her up in time for Sunshine to finish the fucker
off.
Fighting the mirelurks was no joke, those crab legs were
tough. After we was done taking them out, I showed Millie how to collect the
meat from the shells. We didn’t have any luck with the soft shell meat, but we
got a good amount of regular meat. We took an hour to collect and Sunshine
rested in the sun while Karl walked across the river to fetch the intact eggs.
Lab Coat collected samples from the eggs and then put the remaining eggs in
Karl for safe keeping.
Some of them eggs weren’t fertilized yet, so I said be
careful not to sing no lullabys near it or you might make some baby mirelurks.
Babs thought this was real interesting, guess he never learned where babies
come from, you know? Said he probably has a lot babies all over the place cuz
of him singing lots of lullabys.
Ah, so... yeah, we packed up our stuff and then we headed
out, continuing North toward the farm where the raiders was headed. The journey
took several hours. At one point, Sunshine got tired of walking and asked if
I’d carry her. Murph said he could do it, but I said it was no problem. I was
happy to help, especially after everything she did to get me back on my feet
again months ago... it was the least I could do. I was just relieved she was
okay.
After awhile, Sunshine felt rested so she headed to the
front to guide our troop. Babs made a comment about sparks between us... So he and
Lab Coat started giving me advice about Sunshine. Said they could make some
kinda concoction using my DNA, but Babs said the first 8 would fail, only
number 9 would work. Whatever that means.
As we got closer to the farm, Sunshine signaled for us all
to be quiet, but we was still gabbing and didn’t get the message, you know what
I mean? Not quite the stealthiest.
We finally reached the farmstead. Sunshine could see a light
in the distance, coming from behind the farmhouse. Probably a bonfire of some
kind. There was a brahmin pen to the left of the house and a barn behind it. To
the right was a cornfield. The group thought maybe just a sneaky non-injured
person should run up ahead to get a look of the bonfire and then they all
looked at me. So I guess I was gonna do it? I snuck up around the house... staying
as quiet as possible. I could hear voices and they didn’t sound like no
farmers, they was talking about trapping a ghoul and taking him to a grocery
store. Fuckin’ bandits. I sent a quick message to Lab Coat, “Bandiz.” I took a
quick peak, there was four of ‘em that I could see. One of them heard something
they went to take a look and I quietly retraced my steps back. Then sent
another message with “Be Sneeky” to Lab Coat. The guy on patrol missed me and
headed back.
When I got to the others, I was worried what would happen to
Millie, so I gave her the NCR cap Lab Coat gave me and we sent her and the
Brahmin into the cornfield to hide. I don’t know if I could forgive myself if I
let anything happen to that kid, you know?
The rest of us started to head back around the house. We
hung back a little while Murph headed in. Murph took a shot, and boy that got
their attention and things started to heat up fast! Lab Coat pulled out Joy, I
got Mel out and ready, and Sunshine pulled out her shotgun. Babs held his
position against the wall, probably working on one o’ his rousing speeches, you
know?
Mel did good, but her cartridge came loose, I was gonna pop
it back into place, when one of the bandits hopped over the wall with a tire
iron. He just started swingin’, but the tire iron just bounced off my abs.
I pulled out my big mouth and that guy lost his head. Chains
got caught and came off, shit that’s gonna take a little bit to fix. I was
waiting for that speech from Babs, but he must’ve been dealing with something
else near the side of the house.
At some point, we saw a couple guys run off – one into the
house and the other around near the brahmin. When the guy ran into the house,
we heard a couple woman scream. Then instincts kicked in and I hurried to the
house. As I was running, someone from the house shot at Murph – he looked in a
real bad way, but Lab Coat hurried over to him. Then I saw Babs coming around
the corner and fired at the fucker who shot at Murph. He seemed a little
surprised after he shot, not sure what that’s about exactly.
When I got into the house, I saw two woman chained to tables
and a couple bandits who seemed distracted by something in the front of the
house. There was some screams and energy weapons firing – but not at us or the
farmers. What the fuck is going on?
I hurried to the woman and they told me about Jed and
Jethro. Jed’s in the brahmin pen, but they don’t know where Jethro is and then
they told me Jethro is a ghoul and I could feel my blood starting to boil. I
hurried to the closest bandit to interrogate him, he didn’t know fuckin’ shit, so
he was useless to me, you know? So I just put him down.
I saw Babs and Sunshine in the hallway... and then realized
what all the commotion was, there was mirelurks in the kitchen! What the fuck?
Did they follow us cuz we took their eggs?
Another fucker comes down the hall with a fancy energy
weapon, seems to arc and hit a number of people. That fucker throws a Molotov
and me and Sunshine and I just charge at him, in flames, screaming where’s
Jethro you motherfucker! I pulled out my big mouth, but the rage took over and
I didn’t quite get an answer from him as his head hit the floor.
When all the bandits and mirelurks were taken out, I hurried
outside while the others freed the women. I found Jed tied up in the brahmin
pen, they had him chained to the trough where the brahmin would drink from.
Those fucking bandits. I didn’t have a key and I think the rage finally started
to settle, having some kind of feelings about what those fucking bandits was
doing with these people, to the ghoul brother... I just hope that guy’s okay.
Sunshine managed to find a key on one of the bandits and she
freed the woman and Jed. We all hurried to the barn and heard muffled sounds
when we got there.
Luckily Jethro was alive, thank fuck. He was beat up, but
alive. Coming down from being so angry... this is all bringing back too many
memories, you know?
...
Oh yeah, so as we was looking around, I heard some sort of
whimper coming from an overturned cart – turns out it was a little mutant hound
puppy in a cage, so I picked him up and headed over to the others. Think I’ll
call him Chompers... but as soon as the others saw him, they thought maybe
Kirkland would want him. Yeah, I guess that makes sense n all, but you know,
gonna be hard giving this little guy up.
Anyway, I think we’re gonna go talk with the family and then
maybe stay here tonight, finally get a good night’s rest.
